FIVE DAYS IN ROME - SEPTEMBER 2019
Views of The Eternal City - As it was - and will be again.

Dad and I visited the Eternal City in 2019, when he was 99 years old!  It would prove to be his last trip.  It was short but sweet.  We had memorable evenings at the trattoria next door to our flat in Trastevere, where our waitress told us she was studying to be a Maître D' at George Brown College!  We saw St Peter's and the Vatican museum and took a boat ride on the Tiber.  It was a lot and Dad was worn out but happy.  Everything was great except for 'those damned cobbles'!  The cobblestones of Rome made a bumpy ride for Dad in his wheelchair, so he said, 'Son, let's go home.'  During those five days, I wandered many streets, especially around Trastevere, and captured images that would inspire the paintings in this series.  I completed these paintings during the Pandemic, when I made weekly visits back to my studio, while I was taking care of Dad at home.
